BREATH
by Steven Faivus, 2011
Breath
A cow licks its big
soft tongue across
calf’s dripping cheek
A rooster cries
before dawn
trumpeting
a different signal
A black widow
caught between body and bed
refuses to bite
the doughy shoulder
mites, gather near,
in the ear,
and whisper sense
into that
slumbering magician
All animals and plants,
microbes too,
hold their breath,
wondering what humans
will do next
Climate Change Science/Overview by Steven Faivus 2012
Intense gravity
in the center of the sun
Hydrogen explode
fusing into Helium
Created in and fleeing from
sun’s exploding flair
light streams in
through Earth’s air
As sunlight
heats floor
heat gives off
I R
sunlight-heated
floor
gives off
I R
the IR flies
into the sky
where the CO-2’s
reply
snarling laughing
CO-two
sends the IR they found
back down to the ground
Returning I R
turns back to heat
though sometimes
sweet
global warming
is alarming
changing climate in
new and dangerous ways

infrared radiation
I R
whispers heat
from near to far
infrared
I R
whispers heat
from here to there
long wavelength cousin
to visible light
lower frequency
IR’s brother’s heat
infrared radiation’s
low frequency
long wavelength
electromagnetic radiation
IR’s
heat’s messenger
when temperatures differ
IR’s occur

heats floor
heat gives off
I R
IR flies
into the sky
then comes
CO-2‘s reply
CO–2 turns the
IR they found
back down
to the ground
it's no fault
of the CO2
it's what they do
unlike stiff
N 2 or
0 2
CO-2’s groove
to the IR’s vibe
now the returning
infrared radiation is
creating a
global sensation
an international
perturbation
heating the globe
and changing climate in
new and dangerous
ways
It’s humanity’s
greatest challenge
and oppor-
tunity
what are you
about?
(Freestyle Ideas):
Sunlight streams in
through the atmosphere
have no fear
it's why were here
and all the foxes algae
Redwood Towers
all plants and animals’re
solar powered
The sun light licks the surface
and disappears,
leaving a visible signal
which spreads into the air
and a warm blush
spreading down
into the ground
before the warmth
dissipates it
releases like a cactus
flower in the night
infrared light
How does
infrared jump away
from the heated
mountain head?
Sunlight might try
to stay free
but it flies smoothly
to its destiny
hits the floor
in a moment of glory
reads reacts assortment
jumps to exact compartment…

II. Symptoms
Cars
Poles melt
Factories
Hurricanes pelt
Ocean
acidification
wildfire
deforestation
drought
extreme storms
hotter hots
colder colds
Cow farts

symptoms
abound
yet still
we doubt
record breaking
temperatures
resurrecting
ancient fears
Poles melt
seas rise
watch earth change

III. Science*
(*for more on science see our music video Greenhouse Effect - the science of climate change)
CO-two
in the air
How does it
Get into there?
Greenhouse gases
in the air
Power plants
Put them there
What do
these gases do?
Change the climate
that’s what they do
How we live
Needs repairing
combustions abound
but who’s preparing?
Humans are
Mucking it up
Mucking it up
We’re Mucking it up
Humans are
Mucking it up
Mucking it up
We’re Mucking it up

Sunlight in
heat can’t get out
That’s what these gas’re
All about
Sunlight heats earth
gives off IR
carries heat
from near to far
CO2
holds in the heat
sends it back down
to earth’s feet

heat can’t get out

IV. Commentary
So that’s our crazy
experiment
pumpin’ carbon disregardin’
consequence
Dirty old tech
From hundreds of years ago
Really nothing cleaner
Here in the 20-0’s?
processed refined
condensed omnipotent
crude oil’s still
the drug of the moment
But wait
It’s not too late
Hope is here
We’re at the gate
Global warming

Love the car
Love the machine
Cellphone email

Negligence
Ignorance
Critical
Circumstance
On the edge
We’re pushing still
Now more than ever
Can’t get our fill
Unique time
Now
Could destroy it all

V. Solution
But wait
It’s not too late
To cooperate Collate
Resuscitate Collaborate
Reuse reduce
Recycle Restyle
Take a seat
Relax a while
We can do this
it's not too late
time to stand
and meditate
Solar power
Wind power
How we eat
Think awhile
Keep it in the ground
Keep it in the ground
Keep it in the ground
Keep it in the ground

Think awhile
We can do this
Let’s work together
We each fit
A piece of the puzzle
Love is the answer
