About Singing Scientific-Science Through the Arts

Mission: To Understand and Appreciate Nature
Consider your state of mind while learning. Aim for relaxed, creative, flexible, curious, receptive. Singing scientific leads you to work creatively with scientific models.

Draw, color, label, question, research and discuss model illustrations. Design and create your own. Sing along with the call-and-response song. Like the visual, the song follows the scientific process. Rhythm and rhyme define key terms. Write and rap or sing your own. Story leads you to imagine traveling through the scientific model. Finish the story or follow the story prompts to write your own. Poetry helps you to reflect on the meaning of and connections with the science. Movement, as with all singing scientific pieces, leads you to relax and physically experience through creative imagination.

Description of Pieces

These flexible learning materials are engaging and multi-modal.

Role of Each Science Arts Piece

Interactive Visual:  Learner designs, draws, colors, labels, and presents a visual model. 

Song: Call-and-response song leads learner to follow the steps of the visual model. A rhyming hook defines key terms. Learners write their own rhymes.

Story: The learner follows the process steps in more detail. The story anthropomorphizes, building scientific imagination. What would it be like to be an element moving through the scientific process?

Poetry: Explore connections, relevance, and feelings.

Movement:  To support internalization and joy, movement accompanies the other pieces.
