Art: DRAW

There are many different ways to draw, color, and label a creative scientific model. Do you want it to be colorful and bold? Perhaps muted and understated? Find a process and style that works for you.

Possible art activities:

  • Follow our step-by-step videos to draw, color, and label.

  • Copy a finished picture from our website.

  • Look online for images to copy and adapt.

  • Ask AI to make a visual model of the chapter topic in your chosen style. Copy and adapt this picture.

  • Design and create your own visual model from your imagination. In my opinion this is the best.

Music: SING

Possible music activities:

  • Watch the music videos. Think about what the words mean and how the words go with the visuals.

  • Sing along with the science music videos. You can record this by yourself, with class, with friends or family. Ask your teacher if you can submit videos of you singing with the science music videos for credit.

  • Make up your own words with a team. Make your own science music videos mixing in your own words and images.

Story and Poetry: READ AND WRITE

Possible creative writing activities:

Story:

  • Read the story. See how it explains the chapter’s science ideas.

  • Write your own story which follows the chapter steps with your imagination.

Poetry:

  • Read our science poetry. Read the poems out loud with family and friends. How do the poems explore connections with and relevance of this science chapter?

  • Write your own science poems which explore connections and relevance.

…..

Visiting a museum, my grandpa finds a painting of interest and is drawn in. He sits, scanning the image for half an hour, looking at design, color, technique, intent, effect. My grandpa was an old school drapery salesman who felt and worked deeply with architecture, color, texture, design, how they made him feel and think and be.

In time he would stand and approach the painting, getting close here, looking at an angle over there.

Meanwhile, I would flutter through the whole museum, pausing here and there to be sure, but by the time I was ready to move on, often he was still on that same piece.

I learned from him. Slow down. But the point here is there is not one way to engage meaningfully with this site.

Try it out. See what you can get curious about. Our world is a rare, beautiful, and mysterious place. Let's enjoy learning about it together. In our own ways.
